At Most Regular Grounds the Home Side Wins Well Over Half

Home win share is home wins divided by home plus away wins, so draws and the 28 decisive neutral-venue matches are left out of it. Pooled across all grounds the home side took 443 of 697 decisive Tests, 63.6%. Among the 32 grounds with at least 10 Tests, the median home win share is 65.7% and 24 of them are above 50%.

The strongest of those is Old Trafford (England) at 92.3%, 12 home wins to 1 in 16 Tests; 6 grounds sit at 80% or more. The weakest is Queens Sports Club (Zimbabwe) at 0.0%, 0 to 14 in 16 Tests.

Draws are a separate measure: Queen's Park Oval has the highest draw share of the regular grounds at 50.0% (5 of 10). Lord's is the busiest ground with 42 Tests. The 31 Tests in the United Arab Emirates were mostly Pakistan home fixtures against a touring side, which count as neutral because the venue is not in Pakistan.

How the Numbers Were Made

Source and counting. Each match's info file in Cricsheet's men's Test CSV archive (894 matches, 2001-12-19 to 2026-08-30, retrieved 2026-09-13) gives the venue, the two sides and the outcome. Venue spellings and abbreviations of the same ground are merged; grounds that were genuinely renamed (sponsor deals, rebuilds, honours) are kept as separate rows because the archive does not encode that they are the same place. The home side is whichever team's home countries include the venue's country; Wales counts for England and any Caribbean nation for West Indies.

The finding. Home win share for a ground is home wins over home plus away wins. The ranking uses only grounds with at least 10 Tests. Draw share is draws over all Tests at the ground.

Checks. Home wins, away wins, draws and neutral decisive matches sum to 894, the number of Tests in the archive. Grounds with a handful of Tests can show 0% or 100%; read the percentage next to the Tests column.

Afghanistan is missing. Cricsheet withholds all 13 Afghanistan Test matches from its public download, so Afghanistan never appears in this table and any Test involving Afghanistan is absent from every total on this page. Coverage also starts on 2001-12-19, so 2001 is a partial year, and 2026 stops at the retrieval date.

Licence. Cricsheet publishes no formal licence text; its downloads, about and format pages were checked on 2026-09-13 and none exists. The project describes itself as freely available structured cricket data and asks to be credited. The table is republished on that basis, with Cricsheet named as the source, and anyone reusing it under terms that need a clear licence grant should check with Cricsheet first.
